Špania Dolina is located 11 km north of Banská Bystrica, near Staré Hory, at the border of the Low Tatras and the Great Fatra mountains. The history of this village dates back to the Bronze Age.

The village offers not only relaxation in a pleasant mountain environment but also an active holiday experience. Well-maintained and marked trails allow you to explore the surrounding nature. The Mining Educational Trail will guide you to shafts and tunnels that reflect the region’s rich mining history. Within the village, you’ll find a sports complex with tennis courts, a volleyball court, a children’s playground, and a covered seating area. The nearest ski resort is Šachtičky.

The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord was consecrated in 1254. In 1593, it was rebuilt from an older Romanesque structure into the Gothic style, and later expanded and modified into its current form. Inside the church, you can still see paintings by J. Hanula and furnishings from the 17th and 18th centuries.
