The Museum in Martin is one of the largest and at the same time the oldest organizational components of the Slovak National Museum. Since the beginning of its operation, it has acquired collections of a nationalistic nature from Slovakia and abroad. The main building of the Museum in Martin is the Ethnographic Museum. Its focus is research, documentation, presentation and preservation of folk culture in Slovakia. The museum owns more than one hundred thousand collection items from this area. While viewing the objects on display here, you will get to know the traditional culture of Slovakia with its typical rural character with predominantly agricultural production. The Ethnographic Museum in Martin has three permanent ethnographic exhibitions, which form separate thematic units with the names: - Man and land - a tour of traditional ways of earning a living in Slovakia through farming and shepherding. - Man and material — you will get to know the artisanal and domestic processing of various natural materials. - Man and clothing — the exhibition will present you with a representative selection of folk clothing from our territory. The museum in Martin also has interesting archaeological finds. Here you will find artifacts from the times of Great Moravia to the emergence of the early feudal Hungarian state. Contemporary realities inform about the onset of a new economic and cultural phenomenon, which were medieval cities. In the past, these became important centers of trade, craft production and guild associations, which later replaced manufactories. The Ethnographic Museum in Martin also organizes several short-term exhibitions every year. During them, visitors are presented with his collection and material from other museums and galleries.
